“then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God”. (Proverbs 2:5)
There are 3 aspects of Wisdom presented in Proverbs 2.
- The conditions for gaining wisdom.
- The rewards of meeting the conditions.
- The value of the wisdom received.
Today we will look at the conditions. (Verses 1-4)
My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures (Proverbs 2:1-4)
- Receive/treasure
- Listen/hear
- Call out/seek/search
In these first four verses of Proverbs 2, note that each instruction is preceded by“if”. While God’s love is always unconditional, His promises, for the most part, are not. Being a beneficiary of His promises requires action on our part.
Tomorrow morning we will take a moment to consider the rewards of meeting these conditions.
