What’s the Difference?

Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. (Psalms 37:7)

Lord, You know so well our arrogance and pride.

We go around wringing our hands, fearful of what’s to come. We cry out for justice while failing to offer it to others. We say we want peace while stirring up contentions. We say we want “equality” but in reality we want “me first and foremost”.

Foolish people that we are, we think we know how to “fix it” . In truth, it is not our plans, or efforts, or even our best intentions that will make the difference.

To really make a difference; just two things are required: true worship of You and obedience to Your word. The very things that we reject.

Teach me Lord to put away all my selfish desires. Teach me to be content in You ; to be still and patient in seasons of troubles and trials. Let the difference begin with me.

Shine On

Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday. (Psalms 37:5-6)

Thank You Father for the hope You give through these words.

What a beautiful picture of what life in Christ can be. The light of Christ that not only guides us on our journey, it reveals to us, and in us, the needs of our heart. What a great promise that if we will just trust in You, You will do it!

Lord, help me to trust You more and more, and as I do, let me clearly see in myself what You see in me. Let Your light shine brightly to dispel any shadows and bring forth in me Your righteousness. Let Your light shine brightly to reveal to me Your truth.

Lord, may my life shine brightly and be pleasing to You.

I Believe.

Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalms 37:3-4)

Lord, I believe.

I believe in Your faithfulness, even when my faith is weak. I believe that when I put my trust in You, all my needs will be met. I believe that when I delight in You, You will fulfill the desires of my heart.

Help me Lord when my heart is troubled, when I am anxious over the cares of this life, to fix my eyes on You, so that I can strong against every doubt and fear.

Teach me Lord how to rest in Your presence because it is there that I will find peace for my soul.

Guard me Lord from any spirit of anxiety, worry, doubt. Cover me with Your peace.

Let me rest in Your love and be comforted.

What the World Needs Now

Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not envious toward wrongdoers. For they will wither quickly like the grass And fade like the green herb. (Psalms 37:1-2)

Lord, it is so easy to get caught up in the things of this life.

Give me a heart that longs for the things of life that really matter. Give me a thirst for the living water of Your word.

We are surrounded by lies, deception, false teachers. We cry for fairness and justice even knowing that we live in a fallen world. In vain we fret over what others are doing. Open our eyes Lord and make us see that what is needed is a a hunger for truth. We need revival; yes, in our land and in the church, but first of all in our hearts.

Bring Your people back to the joy of our salvation. Restore in us the power of the gospel. Remind us Lord that a watered down gospel is no gospel at all; easy faith is weak faith. Lord, raise up Your people to boldly proclaim Your name.

It is our only hope.

Sunday Morning Hymn

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW
written in 1905 by lyricist Civilla D. Martin

Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. (Matthew 10:29)

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

Civilla Martin was born in Nova Scotia in 1866. Her husband was an evangelist who traveled all over the United States. She accompanied him and they worked together on most of the musical arrangements that were sung.

In 1904 Civilla was visiting an ill, bedridden friend. Although discouraged and sick, her friend remembered that God, her Heavenly Father, was watching over each little sparrow and would certianly watch after her.

Mrs. Martin was a poet and thought this would be a perfect idea for a poem. She jotted down the idea and by the end of the day, had completed “His Eye is On The Sparrow”.

The entire poem was sent to a well-known composer of that day, Charles Gabriel. His lovely music has carried it all around the world in small churches and great crusades. Ethel Waters is remembered for her great rendition of this song, when she sang and gave her testimony at many Billy Graham Crusades.

Saturday Morning Time Out

we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. (1 Thessalonians 2:2b, 8)

WE ALL have a mission in the world, though we may never be called to cross the sea, or to visit distant lands to preach the gospel.

Christ’s command to each of us, is begun with the person next to you. Do not wait to be neighboured, but neighbour somebody who is in need. The best way to bring in the Kingdom of God is to bring the person whom you can most easily influence to the Saviour. All great work in the world has commenced, not by committees, but by the consecration, self-sacrifice, and devotion of single individuals.

Steadfast Love

Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. (Psalm 33:22)

Lord Jesus, You are my Savior; I put my hope in You.

Because of Your steadfast love I can come to You without any fear at all. When I am troubled, You give me peace. When I am hurting, You give me comfort. When I am afraid, You reassure me. When I am discouraged, You give me hope. When I come weary, You give me rest.

It is Your steadfast love that sustains me through every trial of life. And when this life is over, Your steadfast love will carry me home.

O God, my God, how wonderful Your name in all the earth.

Wait and See

Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.
For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. (Psalms 33:20-21)

Lord, I need to be better at waiting and trusting.

Too often I jump into things that may not be the better thing. Give me more wisdom and greater discernment. Teach me to wait for Your direction, to put my trust in You.

Your name is holy and mighty and able to save. When I wait on You, I will know Your will for my every situation. When I put my faith in You, I can walk boldly, confident of Your protection. When I truly put my trust in You, and not myself, You will guide me in the way I should go. When I trust in Your Name, my heart will rejoice!

Keep me mindful Lord, keep me humble.

Always There

Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine. (Psalms 33:18-19)

Lord, my only hope is in You, in Your eternal promise.

We live on this earth for only a short season; when life gets hard Lord, help me to remember that. Help me to put my faith and my hope in You, in that which is eternal.

Jesus, Your love is so great. In times of trials, You are there. In times of sorrow, You are there. In times of fear, You are there. When I rise in the morning, when I lie down at night and every hour in between, You are there.

And, at the moment of my departure from this life, You will be with me. You will be there to deliver me from the presence of death into Your presence. You will be there to welcome me to my eternal home with You. There will be no more pain or sorrow, no more worry or fear.

Thank You Lord that though others may desert me, You will always be there!

Our God Reigns

The king is not saved by a mighty army; A warrior is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a false hope for victory; Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength. (Psalms 33:16-17)

Lord, we say these words, we say we believe them. We claim we put our trust in You.

But, in the face of our trials, when danger or trouble knocks at the door, when we are tested, more often than not our words prove empty. Help us Lord to truly and fully put our trust in You.

No man, no army, no government, no created thing can deliver us. These things are all, as the Psalmist writes, “false hope”; it is a hope on which too often we build our lives and even our faith.

Remind me Lord, in those seasons of doubt and trials, to put my faith in the True Hope of Jesus Christ, the One who can deliver me, the One True God who is ruler over all things!

Only You can save!
