The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times. (Psalms 12:6)
Lord, I don’t understand why men choose to do evil over good, wrong rather than right.
It is as Your word says “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it”? Even the redeemed must battle the residual wickedness that is born in the heart.
Jesus, continue in me the work You have begun. Search me, test me, refine me like silver. Make my heart pure.
Lord, cleanse me from all wickedness for Your namesake.
The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble; And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. (Psalms 9:9-10)
Lord, You are my strong tower.
My soul is comforted in knowing that whatever the situation, I can come to You. I have peace within because I know You are there; ever-faithful, ever-present. You are my Helper. No need I have is too small, no problem too big; for every situation You tell me “come”.
Your love for Your child is eternal. You will not withhold it, it will never wane or fade.
What joy fill my heart because I can boldly profess “the One True God, creator and sustainer of all things, He is my Father”!
Lord, You are my refuge, I can put my trust in You.
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; (Romans 10:9)
Let Jesus Come Into Your Heart
If you are tired of the load of your sin, Let Jesus come into your heart; If you desire a new life to begin, Let Jesus come into your heart. (Refrain)
If it’s for purity now that you sigh, Let Jesus come into your heart; Fountains for cleansing are flowing nearby, Let Jesus come into your heart. (Refrain)
If there’s a tempest your voice cannot still, Let Jesus come into your heart; If there’s a void this world never can fill, Let Jesus come into your heart. (Refrain)
If you would join the glad songs of the blest, Let Jesus come into your heart; If you would enter the masions of rest, Let Jesus come into your heart. (Refrain)
Refrain: Just now, your doubtings give o’er; Just now, reject Him no more; Just now, throw open the door; Let Jesus come into your heart.
Lelia Naylor Morris (April 15, 1862 – July 23, 1929) was an American Methodist hymnwriter. Some sources give her first name as Leila, but her obituary, grave marker, and other sources give her name as Lelia. She is sometimes known as Mrs. Charles H. Morris, as (Mrs.) C. H. Morris, or as ., having adopted her husband’s forenames upon marriage after the custom of the time.
Morris was born in Pennsville, Ohio. In 1881, she married Charles H. Morris. In the 1890s, she began to write hymns and gospel songs; it has been said that she wrote more than 1,000 songs and tunes, and that she did so while doing her housework. In 1913, her eyesight began to fail; her son thereupon constructed for her a blackboard 28 feet (8.5 m) long with oversized staff lines, so that she could continue to compose.
For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as He hears it, He answers you. (Isaiah 30:19)
How tender and gracious are these words to those in pain and distress. Be of good cheer, God has not forgotten to be gracious to you! Take to heart these sweet promises, and ask that the counterpart of these blessings may be granted in your experience.
An excerpt from F.B. Meyer’s “Our Daily Walk” devotional.
I will give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. (Psalms 7:17)
Lord, there is none like You. You are the LORD Most High!
Who is worthy of Your righteousness? Who is worthy to sing praises to Your name? Not even one.
Certainly not me. There is no worship I can give that is worthy of Your holy name. There is no praise I can offer that can equal the depths of Your righteousness.
One day, when I come into Your heaven, Your word has promised, I will be holy as You are holy. I will be like You, I will see You as You are. O glorious day!
Lord, until then, let my worship, my prayers, my praise, imperfect as they are, be acceptable to You.
Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider my groaning. Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, For to You I pray. In the morning, O LORD, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch. (Psalms 5:1-3)
Lord, when I cry out to You, You come.
There is nothing in this world worthy of my trust. There is no one who can utterly save me; everyone is just as broken as I am.
But You O Lord, You are perfect in all Your ways. Your love is unconditional, Your mercy knows no bounds, Your kindness is without measure, Your grace is inexhaustible!
You listen. You not only hear my prayers, You listen for my cries, and You come to me.
You alone Lord are worthy of all praise, honor, and glory, both now and forevermore.
Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the LORD. (Psalms 4:4-5)
Lord, what good instruction these verses hold.
In these words we are given a perfect guide for our “posture of prayer”.
Be still – Close out the world around me, put my thoughts only on You.
Meditate in my heart – On Your word, confessing my sin and seeking Your righteousness.
Praise You – For Your love, mercy, and grace that frees me from the power of sin and has delivered me from the penalty of my sin.
Honor You – Committing myself to You, obeying Your word.
Trust You – Believing Your word, Your promises. Living confident in the truth of your word, You cannot lie.
These are the things that will grow our faith and give us the strength we need for the journey.
Lord, search my heart. Show me where I am coming up short. Bring me to my knees.
I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about. (Psalms 3:5-6)
These verses remind me of my childhood bedtime prayer!
“Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray thee Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray thee Lord my soul to take”.
Lord, that is still my prayer.
Because of Your love and Your sacrifice, I can pray it with confidence. I can close my eyes at night knowing that, should I not open my eyes in the morning, my soul will rest with You for all eternity.
There is no fear for those whose trust is in You. We are sheltered in Your arms, sustained by Your love. What can man do to us?
Thank You Lord that I can lay down and sleep in perfect peace.
