Have you ever known someone who was very intelligent yet seemed to have no real sense about the practical things of life? There is a (not so politically correct) term for such a person, “book-smart but street-dumb”. We typically think of knowledge and wisdom as the same thing but they are not; to put it in simple terms, knowledge is having information, wisdom is knowing what to do with the information.
There are millions of books written by some very good authors. There are books that give us hours of entertainment and those that provide useful information and increase our knowledge. But, it is only God’s Holy scriptures can give us godly knowledge and wisdom;. It is in these 66 books that we will find everything we need to live godly lives.
seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. (2 Peter 1:3)
The pride of man lets us think that we “know something”. It fools us into a kind of false wisdom which leads us straight into trouble, too often taking others with us.
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! (Romans 11:33)
As we read and study the word of God, as we hide His word in our hearts, then and only then will we gain godly wisdom that points to us to Jesus, the One who is the source of our righteousness.
