I have to say this…
I’ve been seeing a lot of FB posts lately that have me concerned. They are shares from various sources, most apparently come from a series of memes, professing to be messages from God. They begin “God is saying to you today” followed by some promise, presumably from God. And by the way, the “promise” is usually in quotes implying that the words are directly from the mouth of God.
Here is my problem, in the dozens of these things that I have seen, I have yet to see a single one which gives any scripture reference. Some of the quotes can be lined up with scripture but most can’t. They are words that have been twisted, misinterpreted, and/or taken out of context to make us feel good.
THERE IS NO NEW REVELATION. What God has to say to us He has already spoken through His written word-the Bible. If it’s not there, He didn’t say it. I wonder, why do we even feel the need to hear new promises from God when He has already given us thousands. If we feel the need for more than what’s already been given then we either don’t know God’s word or we don’t believe God’s word.
Matthew 7:15 warns “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves”.
And in the book of Acts we find: The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. (Acts 17:11)
I am not writing this out of condemnation of those who are grabbing on to these “promises”. I am writing from a place of pain. I am writing out of my love and concern for my sisters in Christ. I am writing with sorrow for those who are vulnerable and have fallen victim to the enemy’s half truths. Half truths. A method which Satan has employed since the beginning of time and it is dangerous. As a matter of fact, a half truth is always more dangerous than a bold lie because it is easier for us to be deceived by it. And as we know, Satan is the deceiver.
Y’all, I could give you so many scriptures concerning this issue but I hope you will search the scriptures for yourself.
I will just finish with this: whatever word comes from man – your pastor, Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader, favorite author, television preacher, me… no matter how comforting they may be for the moment or how “right” they sound, test them all against God’s written word.
Because I care about you.
